100 Good Wishes Quilt100 Good Wishes Quilt Project
To welcome and celebrate a new life, there is a tradition in the northern part of China to make a "Bai Jia Bei", or 100 Good Wishes Quilt. It is a custom to invite family and friends to contribute a patch of cloth with a wish for the new baby. Part of the cloth goes into the quilt, and the other part will go into a creative memory book with the wishes from all the families and friends who contributed a piece of fabric. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation.
Our nursery is going to be decorated in natural tones (cream/beige/brown) with hints of traditional chinese colours (maroon/burgandy/red/gold) and the theme is going to be Panda's and Ladybugs (both very meaningful to the Chinese adoption process).
So far we have received fabric from family and friends in SA (see attached photo). Our family & friends in SA had a great idea to send us some ethnic fabric to add to the quilt, adding a little bit of Africa to it:) We are hoping that our friends around the world will send us fabric that represents where they live, that way we will have a real "international" quilt.
1月20日 We are AdoptingRowan & I are very happy to announce that we are in the process of adopting a baby from China. We have lots to tell and are in the process of having a special web page set up. So watch this space for further details. In the mean time we have updated this space with links that you might find interesting regarding International Adoption. |
