Rolling Stones rock Regina for the first time

REGINA -- It's only rock 'n' roll but as the Stones rolled into Saskatchewan for the first time ever, the excitement had fans from far and wide hopping.

From the opening chords of Jumping Jack Flash, the band brought 40,000 fans from across Canada and many northern U.S. states to their feet at the first of two shows in Regina over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

"Someone told me, Regina, it rhymes with fun,'' said Mick Jagger, who had to dodge a bright pink bra tossed by an exuberant fan.

The veteran band's front man may be 63, but fans said Jagger and colleagues Ron Wood, Charlie Watts and Keith Richards could still work a stage.

"Mick still has the moves,'' said Regina resident Brenda Mcleish. "I thought that they'd be older and less movable, but no, no they've still got it going on.''

The steel stage rose 27 metres into the moonlit Prairie sky at Mosaic Stadium, home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders football team.

"It was awesome, the best concert I've ever seen,'' Mcleish said of Friday night's opening spectacle.

"The stage, the light show, the band, the crowd, it was amazing.''

Concertgoer Jessica Paul agreed.

"It was just phenomenal _ Mick in the big hat and he was just grooving,'' Paul said of Jagger's moves during the band's hit Sympathy for the Devil. "It was great.''

Richards got a laugh when he stepped up to the microphone, a cigarette dangling from his right hand and a cloud of smoke hovering around his head, to welcome fans.

''Good evening ladies,'' said Richards. And, after a pause, "and gentlemen, I presume.''

Many had wondered if Richards would light up on stage, given that the provincial Tobacco Control Act and a city smoking bylaw prohibit smoking in enclosed public places.

It's not clear how that would apply to Mosaic Stadium, which is an open-air facility.

Some fans who couldn't get into the sold-out stadium to see the boys up close lingered around the entrances, straining to catch a glimpse of the show.

Others forced area residents to take their own crowd control measures.

Mike Wesa, whose home is across the street from the stadium, had the benefit of a clear view of the show.

But he spent much of the night trying to keep fans off his property.

"A lot of people were trying to get up on my deck and in the trees in my yard, trying to see into the stadium,'' said Wesa.

"They were trying to climb on garages, sheds, trees, fences, trying to see into the concert.''

Still, Wesa said it was a great show and "a once in lifetime thing for Regina.''

City officials have said the Stones' two shows on Friday and Sunday were the biggest-ever concerts in Regina, and possibly in all of Saskatchewan.

Some 80,000 tickets were sold and the event was expected to bring in between $10 million and $15 million in direct tourism spending.

I know its only rock and roll but I like it .....

I am off to see the ROLLING STONES..............  Regina is hosting 2 concerts this weekend and our office bought a batch of tickets, they had a draw for them and sadly I was away on vacation.  Today a co-worker decided to give her ticket up and was kind enough to offer it to me.

Brooks & Dunn Concert

From living in South Africa and not listening to country music (unless the artist crossed over to pop) to living in Canada and tuning into the country station and knowing words to country songs.  Saturday night my mom and I became partial "country gals" we joined my cousins at the Brooks & Dunn concert, where we also heard Aaron Pritchard and Sara Evans.  We had a superb time all that was missing was our cowboy hat and boots, Yeeeehaaaawwwww.
I didnt take my camera but I tried to capture some of the concert with my phone camera.

Hi Everyone
This is a very interesting documentary to watch about China.  The world premier was in January and now they are re-broadcasting it on March 20th

It chronicles the monumental changes unfolding in the planet's most populous nation.  China Rises takes viewers inside this vibrant, fascinating nation for an extraordinary, intimate view of the emerging superpower.

We hope that you can get to watch it or tape it, it really is worth while and it gives you a better understanding about the country and culture from which we are adopting our baby.

Saskatoon Symphony & Saskatoon Childrens Choir

I highly reccommend that if you get an opportunity to hear the Saskatoon Symphony and/or the Saskatoon Children's Choir that you go to the event, you wont regret it.

Last night we went with some friends to the SSO Christmas Concert which featured the SCC.  What amazing talented muscians and singers.  The music was so inspiring and the voices were angelic.  If I wasnt feeling Christmasy before last night I most definately left the concert filled with the joy of Christmas.

Christmas Party - Lorraine

Last night was my Christmas party and we had a FABULOUS time.  Every year I plan the event for our office it is fun but also a little stressful but nothing beats the feeling of succes/satisfaction when at the end of the evening I look around and see everyone having a GREAT time.  For the first time this year we had in-house entertainment (powerpoint presentation & game show) it was so FUNNY we were all laughing and reminiscing and discovering interesting info for the first time about team members.  I work on a FANTASTIC admin team (see photo below) but what really makes it special is the wonderful friendship that we have with one another.  Next up is Rowan's party in December, it should also be fun and entertaining.

Harry Potter

We are HUGE Harry Potter fans so of course we were one of the millions that made HP a box office hit on its opening weekend.  What a GREAT movie, as readers of the book we feel that they are doing a great job at putting the book onto the big screen.  I just wish that we didnt have to wait so long inbetween books and movies.  It has been amazing to watch the growth and talent transformation of the young actors and we are looking forward to seeing them in the next movie.
